Sarah’s passion is teaching people how to communicate with their dogs and cats. A popular speaker, she has taught at Tufts-Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, Guiding Eyes for the Blind, American Council of the Blind, Pet Sitters International, International Association of Canine Professionals, The Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers, Puppyworks, The ASPCA, Groomers Expo, and many more.

Sarah and her husband, Brian Kilcommons, are the pet contributors for Parade Magazine and, together, they have written seven books for Time Warner Books: Good Owners, Great Dogs; Childproofing Your Dog: A Complete Guide to Preparing Your Dog for the Children in Your Life; Good Owners, Great Cats; Paws to Consider: Choosing the Right Dog for You and Your Family; Tails from the Barkside; Metrodog: The Essential Guide to Raising Your Dog in the City; My Smart Puppy: Fun, Effective, and Easy Puppy Training (Book & 60min DVD) . Good Owners, Great Dogs (1992) remains one of the top selling training books in America though My Smart Puppy (2006) is already higher ranked on the Barnes and Nobles website.

She was the on-air trainer for Nick Jr’s Pup Grows Up. You'll see her on TV through Comcast's Video on Demand/Life and Home/Pets area this fall.

She has written for or been quoted in O Magazine, The Boston Globe, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Chicago Tribune, Dogs in Canada, Cosmopolitan magazine, Veterinary Trends, Pet Health, W, New York Newsday, Parenting, Dog World, Dog Fancy, to name a few.

Since 2000, she has run one of the most active Internet boards - now at www.familydog.yuku.com - on dog training and care, fielding tens of thousands of questions.

She has a Masters degree from Lesley University focusing on the complexity of the bond between women and dogs. Sarah and Brian have won awards from the New York State Veterinary Medical Association and the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association for their commitment to educating the public on animal care and training. She currently is working the NEADS (www.neads.org ) puppy program to help produce the most stable, adaptable and trainable pups possible.
